Charlotte,NC,USA -Baltimore Business Journal, by Stephanie Wentworth- 27 Apr 2006: -- The new electric-diesel hybrid buses will start rolling through Baltimore this spring and, if they perform well, the state plans to purchase 300 more, Gov. Robert Ehrlich said... The state is getting 80 percent of its funding for the buses, which cost nearly $600,000 a piece, from the federal government. Conventional diesel buses cost $370,000, said Erin Henson, a spokeswoman for the state transportation department... If the state decides to go ahead and buy 300 more buses over the next six years, roughly half of the Maryland Transportation Authority's bus fleet would have hybrid electric and diesel engines by 2012, Ehrlich said...
