New scheme to reduce trouble after closing time
Leeds,Yorkshire,UK -Yorkshire Post Today, by Paul Whitehouse -27 Apr 2006: -- Police will act as marshals to supervise late night buses in a Yorkshire town in a radical attempt to improve safety for revellers and reduce the potential for trouble after pubs close... The scheme is the result of a new partnership between South Yorkshire Police, the county's Transport Executive and bus company First, which will operate six buses in the Doncaster area from next month... The link was established as a result of research which showed passengers wanted a simple and safe way to get home after a night out... Police know from experience that an effective way to reduce the number of incidents at weekends is to get people away from town and city centres as quickly as possible after they leave pubs or clubs... The late buses will operate on six routes radiating, that will give police the opportunity to control...
