Ontario, Canada -Ottawa Sun, by DEREK PUDDICOMBE -25 Apr 2006: -- The city has begun testing hi-tech tools for public transit buses that will help keep the traffic flowing smoothly... A few OC Transpo buses have been equipped with transponders that will allow drivers approaching specific intersections to shorten a red light or lengthen a green one. City workers are are conducting tests at Hwy. 417's Pinecrest off-ramp and at Woodroofe and Holland avenues... The technology is a welcome addition to the city's fleet said Ottawa's director of traffic and parking operations. "It gives us another tool in our tool box to further our transit priority initiative," said Mike Flainek... Public transit vehicles and traffic signal maintenance vehicles are the only vehicles allowed to install and use such devices...
