* Malaysia - Shuttle bus service rolls into record books

A Dedicated Transport System (DTS) – claimed to be the first in the world which utilises the Global Positioning System (GPS) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) to monitor passenger and bus movements in near real-time – has just been launched here

It works by having a Mobile Tracking Unit (MTU) installed in each bus, containing a GPS chipset for location tracking and a GPRS telecommunications unit for sending location information to a web server... The MTU also doubles as a passenger tracking device because each DTS passenger is issued with an i-Button – an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip – which relays information about each passenger to the system...
