* UK - Buses to be re-routed "to ensure the safety of shoppers"
Liberal Democrats call for, in Newbury
Newbury,England,UK -The Newbury Weekly News Group -12 Sept 2007: -- More than a thousand people have backed a plan to remove buses from pedestrianised parts of Newbury. The Liberal Democrats say that it is only a matter of time before someone is hit by a bus in town, and want to see them re-routed away from Northbrook Street and through Park Way instead. However, their Conservative rivals say that driving buses through Park Way is not an option. Since buses returned to the road after a revamp last year, there have been reports of close shaves involving buses and pedestrians... Speaking at the meeting, Liberal Democrat leader Jeff Brooks said that if someone was knocked down tomorrow, buses would be withdrawn immediately...
