* South Africa - MEC puts the brakes on bus drivers
As a result of drivers continuing to speed and drive recklessly, even the drivers of private vehicles were discouraged from using public transport
Cape Town,South Africa -Independent Online, by Sipokazi Maposa -11 Sept 2007: -- The behaviour of drivers of public transport vehicles, who are at the frontline as ambassadors to tourists visiting the city, is still a concern, says Transport and Public Works MEC Marius Fransman. The roles of these ambassadors were important in shaping the experiences of visitors... The introduction of the new 110 Man Explorer buses was a "step forward" in providing commuters with quality and efficient public transport... At least 260 000 people in the city used buses daily, Fransman said... The delivery of the buses had already started in some areas, and was set to be completed before the end of the year, with at least 150 more drivers set to be employed...
