TRANSPORT INTELLIGENCE * Australia - Brisbane's bus squeeze remains
Brisbane,Queensland,Australia -The Brisbane Times, by Georgina Robinson -September 12, 2007: -- Every day last month, 28 buses were too crowded to pick up Brisbane commuters - and a proposal to put an extra 36 on the road by July next year will not ease the squeeze any time soon... Overcrowding on city buses stepped up a notch in August with 871 Brisbane City Council buses forced to drive past waiting passengers on busy routes... The figures came just days before public transport chair Victoria Newton presented Lord Mayor Campbell Newman with a $20 million plan to put 36 "sweeper buses" on the city's 10 busiest routes... The extra services would follow scheduled buses to pick up any passengers left behind... (Photo from juts.janes.com: Part of the Brisbane busway)
