Australia -ATN -6 Oct 2006: -- The intermodal transport network is bound by one glaring and worrying fact: nobody wants to work in it. And as the freight task grows, industry is wondering just who’s going to move it... Some sectors like trucking are looking overseas for workers... also wants to import workers, partly to stem the drain of skilled workers overseas... But the rail lobby is questioning whether the inquiry will tell them anything they don’t already know — that is, drastic action is needed to arrest the skills shortage in transport...
