How to find a ride - USA -
Rome,GA,USA -The Rome News-Tribune -1 Oct 2006: -- It's not difficult to understand why the County Commission has long been gun-shy about providing transit service outside the borders of the City of Rome (where the municipality handles public transportation). And it’s been wise to avoid this tax-sucking sinkhole although unwise in not investigating innovative alternatives. Look at Floyd County - it’s huge. How long would it take a bus or van, with stops along the way, to pick up passengers to get from, say, Everett Springs to Cave Spring?... Yes, Floyd is the only county in Northwest Georgia that doesn’t have a rural transit assistance program helping people who can’t/don’t drive and some of the others are almost as large in acreage. They’re also emptier. More people in the outlying areas (and two-thirds of Greater Rome residents dwell outside the city limits) means more demand ... and more expense if such a service were provided...
