* USA - Jurors hear about poor maintenance in Global Limo buses
McALLEN,TX,USA -The Houston Chronicle, by LYNN BREZOSKY/AP -Sept. 28, 2006: -- Witnesses testified today in the criminal trial of a bus company owner that numerous mechanical problems with the buses were never corrected, and that logs and maintenance records were falsified... Testimony continued in the conspiracy trial of James H. Maples, president of Global Limo. A Global Limo bus carrying nursing home residents out of Houston during the evacuation for Hurricane Rita last year exploded near Dallas, killing 23 people... But the jury is not allowed to hear about the fiery blast that brought the company to the Justice Department's attention. Because the original indictment did not mention the accident, U.S. District Judge Ricardo Hinojosa has banned any testimony so far about the accident itself... * India - Vasco buses come under scanner
Mormugao,Goa,India -Herald Publications (Panaji,Goa,India) -Sept 28, 2006: -- Overloaded buses, unscheduled bus stops and even bald tyres on buses will come under close scan by police in the port town, in a bid to apply brakes on the growing number of bus mishaps in the port town... Vasco DySP Dhinraj Govekar convened a meeting of about 30 bus owners operating along Sada, Vasco, Zuarinagar and Cansaulim, instructing them to initiate strict measures in the interest of public safety... Bringing to their notice about bus mishaps that are taking place due to rash and negligent driving, DySP Govekar instructed the bus owners to advise their drivers not to overload buses and to avoid unscheduled stops...

* Czech Republic - Dozens injured in Czech holiday bus accidents
Prague,Czech Republic -Czech Radio/Monsters and Critics.com (Glasgow,UK)/Deutsche Presse Agentur -Sep 28, 2006: -- Bus accidents left at least 30 people injured in two separate incidents during the Statehood holiday Thursday... In the first wreck, officials said about 22 of 40 passengers were injured when their tour bus left the highway near the historic town of Telc and rolled down a steep embankment... The driver said the bus' brakes had apparently failed on a curve, forcing him to steer off the road, police spokeswoman Jana Kamenikova told ... In the second accident, eight people including a child were hurt when a tour bus skidded on wet pavement and collided with a truck near Havlickuv Brod...

* India - 15 killed as bus falls into MP rivulet
SIDHI,India -Daily News & Analysis (Mumbai,India) -Sept 29, 2006: -- Fifteen people, including two women and two children, were killed and 51 injured on Friday when the bus in which they were travelling fell into a rivulet at Kachhani village, about 100 km from here... The private bus on its way to Pursona from Baidhan broke the railings of a bridge and fell into Kachhani rivulet when one of its tyres burst, killing 14 people on the spot, District Collector Sukhvir Singh said on phone from the accident site...


* UK - Anti-freeze blamed for bus nausea, youngsters were taken to hospital
London,UK -BBC News -3 Oct 2006: -- Anti-freeze vapour is thought to have caused more than 30 pupils on a school bus to fall ill... An investigation is under way by police and a vehicle safety agency after the children, pupils at Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, became nauseous... A spokesman for Stagecoach which runs the service, said steam probably formed after water containing anti-freeze fell onto the exhaust on Monday morning...
