Public transit technology - Canada - Buses test traffic light transmitters
Already used in other citiesOttawa,Ontario, Canada The Ottawa Citizen, by Graham Hughes and Alex Hutchinson -Apr 24, 2006: -- OC Transpo buses, which already have the right of way when merging into traffic, could soon have the power to alter traffic lights... Special transmitters on the buses able to shorten the duration of red lights or lengthen green lights as the buses approach an intersection are now being tested in Ottawa... The devices are permitted under provincial regulations that went into effect in February, following successful pilot projects in Toronto and York Region...
