Story - USA - Bus driver wins award for aiding ill rider
Fort Lauderdale,FL,USA -Sun Sentinel, by David Volz -Dec 7, 2005: -- Jorge Prats was simply doing his job, driving a Broward County Transit bus, when a passenger asked for water... Pearl Berger, the ailing passenger, asked to be let off but Prats feared she would not make it home, which she said was two blocks from the stop... Prats said. "I asked her if there was anyone I could call to pick her up. I stopped the bus for a time and we finally reached her [granddaughter]. Finally the [granddaughter] arrived in her car. We waited and then I helped her cross the street"... When he returned to the bus, Prats said he apologized to the passengers for the delay... Berger, 78, was taken to the emergency room of Westside Regional Medical Center, where she stayed for several days for treatment of colitis, she said... Prats, who has been with Broward County Transit for about six months, has many years' experience as a driver. He is a veteran of New Jersey Transit, where he drove buses for many years. He also drove for Gray Line in Fort Lauderdale. And he has been a truck driver...
