Catching - Australia - Drink-driving trap is sprung
Melbourne,Australia -Melbourne Herald Sun, by Shelley Hodgson -7 Dec 2005: -- BOOZE bus trap at city exits nabbed three times more drink-drivers than average... Operation Corral, used for the first time on Friday night, caught 53 drink-drivers.
Seven booze buses were stationed within 4km of the Melbourne CBD to catch drivers heading home to the suburbs.
In total, 3832 drivers were breath-tested, with one in every 72 nabbed... That is more than three times the year's average of one in every 217 drivers caught over .05... Police detected 85 other offences on Friday night, including eight disqualified and unlicensed drivers, and 19 unregistered vehicles... Operation Corral was supported by the Transport Accident Commission...
