Vowing - USA - Low-Key Union Leader Reaps Loyalty
Phil,USA -The Philadelphia Inquirer, by Tina Moore/Red Orbit (Tyler,TX) -7 Nov 2005: -- Jeffrey Brooks was elected president of SEPTA's largest union last year vowing that the city's bus drivers, subway operators and other members would not pay more for health care... But after a weeklong strike, clogged roads, stranded riders and political pressure may make that promise difficult to keep... Under SEPTA's proposal, drivers, subway operators and other workers would pay 5 percent of their health-insurance premiums, or $3 to $12 a week. Now, they pay nothing on the premiums if they have been on the job for more than 27 months. The agency also wants increases in employee co-pays and other out-of-pocket expenses for doctor's visits, hospital stays, and a number of other medical benefits...
