Expects heavy use of fledgling fleet by seniors
Murfreesboro,TN,USA -The Fairview Observer (Fairview,TN), by KATE HOWARD -21 April 2007: -- Buses finally started rolling Friday in a city where explosive growth has made public transportation a more urgent need... It's been seven years since Murfreesboro passed the 50,000-population threshold needed for federal transit money. After several studies and a year of planning, the city is home to more than 83,000 people, 6,000 of whom are 65 or older. And census data shows the senior population growing rapidly in the next decade. Murfreesboro planners see buses as more important than ever... Before this week, Murfreesboro was the biggest city in the state without its own public transit system, although the Regional Transit Authority operates an express bus between Nashville and Murfreesboro. The Rover system joins Nashville MTA, the Music City Star commuter rail, Clarksville buses and Franklin's trolley system in the Midstate...
