Promises - New Zealand - More Buses And Trains
Havelock Nth,Hawkes Bay,New Zealand -newswire.co.nz -8 May 2006: -- Transport managers in Wellington and Auckland are promising more buses and trains to help meet an increasing passenger demand driven by high petrol prices... With a litre of 91 octane now costing just under $1.71, more and more commuters are switching to public transport... In Wellington, the StageCoach bus company says it has already called on Wellington Regional Council to allow more buses on the roads; which should see more services in a matter of weeks... Auckland Regional Transport Authority chair Brian Roache says they are also asking for extra funding to help put on more services... Train passenger journeys reached half a million for the first time in Auckland's history last month, up almost 40 percent on the same time last year...
