Hybrid - USA - Public transit hybrid takes a 3-hour tour
Royal Oak, MI,USA -Daily Tribune, by Christy Strawser -Nov 15, 2005: -- Judging by the puzzled faces it passed on Woodward Avenue, a hybrid bus got some attention as it steamed down the storied thoroughfare... A hybrid bus delivers 60 percent greater fuel economy than conventional buses and can reduce certain emissions up to 90 percent, according to GM's Web site, which estimates that replacing 13,000 transit buses in America's nine largest cities with hybrid buses would save 40 million gallons of fuel a year... GM hybrid powered buses are already operating in Seattle, Philadelphia, Houston, Minneapolis, Portland and Honolulu. Just in Seattle/King County — from where Donigan borrowed her bus — there are 235 GM hybrid-powered buses... Another fleet will soon be operational in Yosemite National Park, where they need buses to be quiet as much as fuel efficient... To get its own fleet of buses for mass transit, many on the bus said that metro Detroit needs to get its leaders on the same page...
