Goa,India -Content4reprint -4 Nov 2008: -- Goa 's public transport largely consists of privately operated buses linking the major towns to rural areas... Government-run buses, maintained the Kadamba Transport Corporation, links both major routes (like the Panjim Margao route) and some remote parts of the state. In large towns such as Panjim and Margao, intra city buses ply.However, public transport in Goa is less developed, and residents depend heavily on their own transport, usually motorised two-wheelers... The KTC operates the bus stands (main bus stops or station) in almost all of Goa 's cities and towns. Their services cover the length and breadth of Goa today... The ticket prices are reasonable and for intra-Goa travel are purchased on the bus itself from the on board bus conductor... These buses tend to be packed with passengers during peak hours and there are some non stop shuttle mini bus services as well, connecting cities like Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Ponda. Like the other bus services in Goa, they have special rates for children, students and senior citizens. It functions as the school bus during school hours... * Pvt buses to be banned on nationalised routes
Bangalore,India -DNA News -November 4, 2008: -- The government of Karnataka has categorically stated that it is determined to eliminate the illegal operations of private buses on nationalized routes... Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Tuesday, transport minister R Ashok made it clear that the government had the requisite political will to implement the decision... The state owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) would soon acquire 1,600 new buses to meet the demand that would arise after the termination of the illegal private bus operations on nationalised routes...
* UT fixes speed for school buses at 40 kmph
Chandigarh,India -Indian Express News Service -Nov 06, 2008: -- Installation of speed-governors made mandatory, operators given time till December 1 to comply with orders... In the wake of a spate of accidents involving school buses in Chandigarh and around, the UT Administration has made it mandatory to install speed governors in all school buses. The deadline for this has been kept as December 1, failing which the State Transport Authority and the traffic police will impound the buses... The UT has also directed that all new school buses will be given permits only after they are presented before a board that will inspect them and see if speed-governors have been installed...
