One in 10 school buses in the state did not meet state standards for safety in their most recent annual inspections

More than 17,000 buses underwent 198-point inspections between Sept. 1, 2007, and Aug. 31, with 90% earning passing ratings. The previous year, 89% passed... Buses that do not pass get either a red or yellow tag... Red-tagged buses cannot be used until the district makes repairs, which could range from inoperable lights or emergency exits to mechanical malfunctions, she said... Parents can tell whether a bus has passed inspection by the MSP tag on the windshield, VanCampen said... Taylor School District had the largest number of buses that failed -- 58 out of 82...
