* Georgia - School district investigates buses running red lights

-- A neighbor shot video of a DeKalb County school bus that appears to be running through a red light on North Superior Road and North Decatur Road in Decatur... After viewing the video, transportation director for the DeKalb County School District plan to send out a warning Tuesday morning to the district's hundreds of bus drivers about the importance of obeying traffic laws. The district is investigating which bus was involved in the video... Neighbors are creating a committee to examine the traffic concerns...

Cincinnati,OH,USA -FOX19, by Hagit Limor -Nov 14, 2014: -- School buses are responsible for transporting thousands of children to and from school in southwestern Ohio each day, and now safety advocates are expressing concern about aging school bus tires... Tires are imprinted with a tire identification or serial number on the sidewall. The identification numbers are batch codes that identify the week and year the tire was produced. The code is in an oval to the far right of the letters DOT (Department of Transportation). The first two digits indicate the week, the second two identify the year... After examining buses from several Cincinnati-area public school districts, while the vast majority of tires were less than five years old, some were more than 10 years old. The oldest tire found was a 1998 tire located on the rear axle of a suburban Cincinnati district school bus...

TESTING SCHOOL BUSES * USA - 90% of school buses pass testing

One in 10 school buses in the state did not meet state standards for safety in their most recent annual inspections

Mich,USA -The Detroit Free Press, by CHASTITY PRATT DAWSEY -October 9, 2008: -- Almost the same as the previous year, Michigan State Police announced Wednesday... More than 17,000 buses underwent 198-point inspections between Sept. 1, 2007, and Aug. 31, with 90% earning passing ratings. The previous year, 89% passed... Buses that do not pass get either a red or yellow tag... Red-tagged buses cannot be used until the district makes repairs, which could range from inoperable lights or emergency exits to mechanical malfunctions, she said... Parents can tell whether a bus has passed inspection by the MSP tag on the windshield, VanCampen said... Taylor School District had the largest number of buses that failed -- 58 out of 82...

They are trying to crack down on reckless drivers who fail to obey the laws around school buses... It's a growing problem not only in Tennessee but across the country... Authorities will charge drivers who try to pass a bus that has stopped and extended its warning arm, according to Fletcher Clay, commander of the Highway Patrol. The charge is a misdemeanor that can bring a fine of up to $200 and five points on a driver's license... Troopers will patrol school areas and follow buses throughout the week...
