* Mexico - Navistar, Neobus Plan Global Integrated Commercial Bus Joint Venture

Mexico City,DF,MEX -IC Bus Press (release) -Originally published Sept 4, 2008: -- Two leading companies based in Latin America intend to form a partnership to help meet the growing demand for public and commercial transportation solutions around the globe... Camiones y Motores International de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. ("CMI"), the Mexico-based subsidiary of Navistar, Inc. and San Marino Ônibus e Implementos LTDA ("San Marino"), a Brazilian bus body builder, have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture to manufacture commercial bus bodies, which will be distributed as commercial integrated buses through the IC Bus Dealer channel beginning in 2009... The companies estimate that the global market for commercial buses is upwards of 300,000 units annually and will continue to grow as markets such as Russia, India and the Middle East move forward with continued infrastructure development... The proposed venture is expected to begin by serving the Mexico and Latin American market with mid-size and midibus models distributed under the IC brand. Future growth potential includes expanding sales into additional products and other world markets, including the United States and Canada...


* UK - Stagecoach spends £3m on buses for world's longest guided route

Scotland,UK -The Scotsman, by Scott Reid -7 October 2008: -- Stagecoach, the Perth-based transport giant, has ordered £3 million worth of green buses for what is claimed to be the world's longest guided busway... The order for 20 vehicles, which will run on biofuel produced from recycled food waste, has been placed with Falkirk-based Alexander Dennis and Northern Irish firm Wrightbus... Passengers will benefit from leather seating, air conditioning and wireless internet access... The new buses are due to enter service when the £116m Cambridgeshire Guided Busway opens in April next year... (Picture: Wrightbus in China)


* USA - BAE Systems, ISUZU to Introduce Clean-Air Hybrid Buses for Japan

San Diego,CAL,USA -MarketWatch -6 Oct 2008: -- BAE Systems, ISUZU and ITOCHU Corp. will introduce fuel-efficient, low-emission hybrid buses to the streets of Japan... BAE Systems' HybriDrive(R) propulsion system will be demonstrated and tested on 30-foot ISUZU ERGA buses in 2009... At the American Public Transportation Association's Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego, BAE Systems announced that ISUZU will install the HybriDrive system on two buses, evaluating their performance at ISUZU's proving grounds and in passenger service. Initial testing earlier this year on an ERGA bus showed a more than 30 percent improvement in fuel economy in typical urban driving conditions...


* FAW Orders More Enova Hybrid Drive Systems for Buses

Beijing,China -
The Green Car Congress -7 October 2008: -- China FAW Group Corporation has ordered additional Enova pre-transmission hybrid-electric drives from Enova Systems as a result of the successful field trial of 20 Hybrid City buses equipped with 90 kW Enova drives during the recent Beijing Olympics... Several China-based transit bus manufacturers participated in the trials. The FAW hybrid-electric City Bus is a 10m vehicle that is built by the Wuxi division of FAW Bus & Coach. This new model, with 10 proprietary patents, delivers a fuel economy increase of 38% and an emissions reduction of 30%, compared to traditional diesel buses... According to the KPMG 2006 China Commercial Vehicles Market Report, the annual medium and heavy truck and bus build in China is approximately 1.1 million units, with FAW holding a 22% share of that build...
