Bus passengers in Manchester are the first in the country to be able to pay to travel at new parking meter-style machines
Manchester,England,UK -The Manchester Evening News, by Don Frame -10 Oct 2008: -- The solar-powered devices are being installed along the busy A6 corridor between Piccadilly railway station and Hazel Grove, in Stockport... They are being tested as part of an £82,000, year-long trial. Tickets from the machines enable passengers to travel throughout Greater Manchester. Transport chiefs hope the machines will make it quicker and easier for passengers to get their tickets before boarding buses.
