BUSES' SECURITY * UK - Officers search for knives on Gloucester buses
Glouceste,England,UK -This is Gloucestercire -September 29, 2008: -- Travellers boarding buses in Gloucester got a surprise on Friday night when they were searched by police officers travelling on them... More than a dozen police officers conducted searches on about 300 bus passengers during the night in a bid to reduce the number of violent crimes being committed in and around the city.
Operation Alliance 4 aims to build on work done during previous operations in the city this month where police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have carried out high visibility patrols and checks at most of the local pubs, bars and clubs... As a condition of travel all passengers had to be willing to be searched by police officers for offensive weapons and drugs... Officers travelled on the main five bus routes that enter the city to conduct the searches... They explained to passengers why they were carrying out the searches and offered them advice...
