CONTROLS * Philippines - Agency begins tagging buses on radio frequency
Manila,Philippines -The Manila Standard Today -5 Dec 2007: -- The Metro Manila Development Authority has announced that it will start next week its radio frequency identification of passenger buses amid an inter-agency drive to weed out non-franchised units and extorting policemen and traffic enforcers... Max Tapongot, chief of the Organized Bus Route Unit, said the system would ensure that buses are dispatched according to passenger demand to solve overcrowding on roads and at bus stops... Installation of electronic chips on 2,517 franchised buses would start next week... Tapongot described the scheme as one with less human intervention because electronic tags would replace bar-coded cards and cue passes...
