PLANNING * Australia - To boost our use of public transport
Queensland,Australia -The Sunshine Coast Daily, by Carolyn Tucker -3 December 2007: -- The Sunshine Coast is on the cusp of a new era, set to undergo a significant transformation within the next two decades... It will evolve from a string of urban and town centres bordered by open space and rural properties, to a sprawling minor metropolis, with competing central business districts springing up in Maroochydore and Kawana... By 2026, the government estimates there will be an additional 500,000 individual trips within the region each day and an efficient public transport system will be vital, not only to reduce harmful emissions but to ensure traffic gridlock is not part of the package... As a result, it is pumping $6.4 billion into transport infrastructure over the next 20 years, including a series of major initiatives aimed at prising us out of our cars and on to buses, trains, bikeways and even hoofing it to nearby destinations...(Video from You Tube, by higgypopuk -March 21, 2007: My guide to the perfect holiday in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia)
