There are over 17,507 buses currently on the road in Beijing. Beijing,China -fujitawork.com/China Daily, by anya -8 June 2007: -- Buses are still the most popular mode of transport among Beijing residents. Beijing is going to replace 7,277 obsolete buses with new ones that meet higher environmental standards. Bank of Beijing will provide 4 billion Yuan to the Beijing Public Transport Group to help replace buses with excessive emissions... All the buses will be equipped with electronic screens and speakers to announce the coming stops. The floors will be lowered, as a convenience to passengers, especially children and the handicapped getting on or off... Since 2005, in order to ease pollution, Beijing has been introducing natural gas-powered buses. 5,000 of them in total are expected to be on the road in time for the Beijing Olympics...
