* South Korea - Buses to Have Seats Only for Pregnant Women
Seoul,S.Korea -The Korea Times -26 Sept 2006: -- Buses will join subway trains nationwide by having signs for seats exclusively for pregnant women beginning Oct. 10, the Day for Pregnant Women, according to ministry officials yesterday... The measure is part of a campaign to protect and assist pregnant women, co-promoted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation and the Hope Institute... Obstetricians and state-run health clinics will also give out badges to pregnant women. The distribution of badges is designed to benefit pregnant women in the early stages of their pregnancies. They get little protection or care when using transportation services because their pregnancies are not yet apparent... School bus safety expert Leon Hain has written to all state and federal ministers asking them to close a legal loophole that allows buses designed for low-speed, metropolitan use, to be used on country roads... Buses with seat backs less than one metre above the floor are exempt from having seatbelts fitted under Australian Design Rules...
