Durham,ONT,CAN -The Durham region news (Toronto,Ont), by Erin Hatfield -Oct 5, 2006: -- A day after transit workers went on strike the impact is being felt across the southern portion of the Region... As of 6 p.m. Oct. 5, Durham Region Transit (DRT) drivers took their buses out of service, the result of unsuccessful contract negotiation between DRT and the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW) Local 222 representing 290 staff... * Italy - Buses, trams and subways idle in, as local transport workers stage 24-hour strike
Rome,Italy -The International Herald Tribune (France)/AP -Oct 6, 2006: -- Buses, trams and subways were idle across Italy on Friday as local transport workers walked off their jobs... The 24-hour strike was expected to cause some traffic disruption. However, unions said they would guarantee minimum service in rush hours... The workers, who are in a contract dispute, staged another daylong strike in mid-September...
