* USA - RTS Adds High-Tech Security Vehicles
Rochester,NY,USA –13WHAM-TV -27 Sept 2006: -- The Regional Transit Service announced Tuesday that it has added new vehicles that will enhance security on buses... The bus company showed off four new vehicles equipped with high-tech security measures, including GPS locators and cameras. The buses also have wireless computers to help passengers with trip planning... RTS purchased the vehicles with the help of a $50,000 state grant... "we will be able to continue securing 4,300 bus stops at over 150 RTS routes, 365 days of the year,” said bus company chief Mark Aesch in a statement...

* UK - Security guards will make it safer on the buses
Blackburn,England,UK -This Is Lancashire -1 Oct 2006: -- Security guards and police officers are to build on the success of Bolton initiative aimed at tackling crime and anti-social behaviour on the bus network... Two dedicated security teams will patrol services and bus stations across Greater Manchester as part of the Patrol and Response initiative. The four uniformed guards will work with police officers to target areas with known problems... The initiative is the extension of a successful trial scheme which has been on-going at Bolton bus station since December 2004...

San Diego,CAL,USA -NBC Sandiego.com -Oct 5, 2006: -- The Metropolitan Transit System is installing security cameras on its buses and trolleys in an effort to boost public safety and reduce vandalism... Seven cameras will be installed on each bus... The security cameras will be able to record the interior and exterior of each bus, and the information will be stored for about two weeks...

Madison,WI,USA -The Capital Times, by Lee Sensenbrenner -3 Oct 2006: -- Uniformed police officers will be available to ride Metro buses under a new proposal that Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is including in his 2007 budget... A Madison Police Department presence on some bus routes is part of an overall commitment to keep Metro as reliable transportation for working people, the mayor said today in an interview... In addition, his budget also calls for no service cuts or fare hikes for the city's bus system...
