Infraestructures - China - Nanjing to build 13 Metro lines

Nanjing, Jiangsu ,CHI -Nanjing Morning Post/The Shanghai Daily (Shanghai,CHI), by Winny Wang -4 Sept 2006: -- Thirteen Metro lines will spread across Nanjing in the future, totaling 433 kilometers... Metro Line No. 1 was officially put into operation today after running for a year as a trial. The capital city of Jiangsu Province, with a population of 6.86 million, will finish setting up the southern extension of Line 1 and the eastern extension of Line 2 before 2010, and the western extension of Line 2 will be complete by 2012... The metro lines will transport 960,000 people every day after 2010, accounting for 12 percent of the total passenger volume... After Line 3 is finished in 2015, the Metro lines will sustain 2.33 million passengers every day and replace 2,790 buses... Eight Metro lines, totaling 200 kilometers, will run in the downtown area. As a long-term target, Metro lines are expected to sustain half of the public transportation passenger volume, with its daily volume reaching 7.28 million...
