TTC - Canada - Fewer buses lead to delays
Transit better way for daily commute -- TTC should increase number of streetcars and buses on all routes as first step to improve service
Toronto,Ont., Canada -The Toronto Star -Jul. 17, 2006: -- I agree that public transit is the better way for all the reasons outlined in your editorial. But I disagree that dedicated streetcar lines such as St. Clair are always the way to improve service... In 2002 Steve Munroe and The Rocket Riders prepared a paper that described, in part, the impact of TTC service cuts: "Overcrowding, lengthening waits, bypasses (whereby a too-full vehicles literally passes by waiting riders) show that the TTC is leaving passengers out in the cold. Poor service is the direct result of having fewer vehicles on the road. Bus and streetcar service have dropped 10 and 20 per cent respectively since 1990. This translates into more crowded vehicles, longer waits and riders abandoning transit for private vehicles"...
