Report - UK - Warns on falling bus use
LONDON,UK -Reuters -May 23, 2006: -- Britain is failing to encourage people to use buses, leading to congestion and environmental problems, a report by parliamentarians said... With the exception of London where buses are being used more than ever, bus and light rail usage was falling in all other regions, continuing a trend that has lasted for 40 years, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said... The government has set a target of increasing bus and light rail usage by 12 percent by 2010 from the 2000 level... Compared with underground rail usage which is at an all-time high, bus usage has been in decline since the 1950s due to increased car ownership and a growing middle class...
