Bigger Buses - USA - Wilshire Rapid Line Gets
Los Angeles,CA,USA -LA Downtown News Online -22 May 2006: -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is phasing in the first of 78 articulated 60-foot, 57-passenger buses on the Metro Rapid Line 720. The buses will replace 40-passenger, 40-foot buses that operate between Santa Monica and Downtown along Wilshire Boulevard, although the first handful will only make the Westwood-Downtown run. Full service along the 720 route is expected by the end of June, with all 78 buses becoming operational by the end of July... Approximately 40,000 riders commute daily along the heavily congested Wilshire corridor, according to the MTA. The new buses will increase seating capacity by 43%. The MTA currently operates 15 Metro Rapid Lines, and 13 more are expected to come online by 2008...
