Buying suspended - New Zealand - Court Considers Bus Company Merger
Wellington's two biggest bus companies go ahead
Havelock Nth,Hawkes Bay,New Zealand -newswire.co.nz -23 May 2006: -- The High Court has started considering whether to let a merger involving Wellington's two biggest bus companies go ahead... New Zealand Bus has suspended moves to buy the 74 percent of Mana Coach Services it doesn't already own while the court decides if the deal hinders competition in the market... The Commerce Commission says the deal reduces competition for the provision of subsidised bus services in the Wellington region, and could raise ticket prices... But the Infratil-owned New Zealand Bus argues that the merger shouldn't stop other bus operators from entering the market... The trial is scheduled to last for two weeks, with the High Court expected to release its judgement towards the middle of June...
