"Pulls Plug" - USA - Milwaukee mayor's veto on proposed electric buses

Milwaukee,MN,USA -Duluth News Tribune (Duluth,MN)/Associated Press -May. 10, 2006: -- The mayor pulled the plug Wednesday on a proposed $300 million electric bus system for Milwaukee - a day after the Common Council endorsed the plan... As proposed, the Milwaukee Connector would have routes linking downtown with Miller Park, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the city's north side. Planners estimate it would cost about $9 million a year to run the guided electric buses, powered by overhead wires... Barrett said in his veto message that he supports public transit, but the proposal had too many unanswered questions, such as where some $57 million in local funding would come from and what would happen if the expected $243 million in federal money didn't materialize...
