Bangkok,Thailand -NGV Global News -August 21, 2014: -- Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has issued Terms of Reference (TOR) for the procurement of 3,183 new natural gas-fuelled buses. BMTA will acquire 1,524 air-conditioned and 1,659 ordinary buses, with the first batch of 489 natural gas buses planned for handover by the successful supplier in January 2015. 

  Specifications for the buses include: 
I) Powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).- 
II) Length 12 metres.- 
III) GVW not less than 15,000 pounds.- 
IV) Seating for 30, capacity for 80 passengers.- 

Bids can be submitted for any one or all of the following 8 items: 
* Regular bus Bus Zone 4 – 424 units 
* Regular bus Bus Zone 6 – 374 units 
* Regular bus Bus Zone 7 – 453 units 
* Regular bus Bus Zone 8 – 408 units 
* Bus Zone 1 – 408 units 
* Bus Zone 2 – 489 units 
* Bus Zone 3 – 175 units 
* Bus Zone 5 – 452 units 

 The buses will replace hundreds of old, dilapidated and broken fleet vehicles... Organizations are scheduled to make the first shipment within 90 days of signing the contract, planned for October... According to an article published by Bangkok Post, the median bidding price for the air-conditioned NGV buses is set at 4.5 million baht each (USD 140,500) and the non-air conditioned buses is set at 3.8 million baht (USD 118,700) each...

Canal Winchester,OH,USA -This Week News, by JANET THIEDE -August 25, 2014: -- The Canal Winchester Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 18 to seek bids for four new school buses -- three conventional vehicles that seat 78 students and one handicap-accessible bus with a wheelchair lift that can hold up to 36 passengers... The board's action occurred on the same day Canal Winchester schools opened for the 2014-15 school year with nearly one-third of its bus fleet sidelined by the Ohio State Highway Patrol because the vehicles failed inspection... Mike Bruning, the district's director of operations, told the board that all the buses that did not meet state standards were at least 14 years old...

Johannesburg,South Africa -All Africa/Business Day, by Khulu Phasiwe-16 October 2007: -- The South African Bus Operators Association (Saboa) said on Friday that it was concerned that SA would not have enough buses to maintain the normal local operations and to cope with the increased demand for public transport during the 2010 Soccer World Cup tournament... Saboa executive manager Eric Cornelius said that SA would need about an extra 500 luxury buses to carry the 350000 tourists and soccer fans expected to visit SA during the four-week soccer event... But the transport department said SA had enough buses to carry existing and new passenger volumes. The department's spokesman Collen Msibi said: "There are 500 luxury coaches in SA to transport people during 2010. About 15000 long distance and commuter buses are ready for the transportation of people for this event. Based on these figures SA has the capacity to handle 2010 World Cup fans"... The department said the tournament's busiest days would require 60 trains, 600 buses and 10000 minibuses...

The Regional Bus Authority approved a contract Wednesday that will provide it with $6.5 million in operating and capital funds in the next two years, as well as leverage millions of dollars in federal funds.

The head of public transport at Brisbane City Council will begin a desperate search for bus suppliers in a bid to ease the long-running overcrowding saga plaguing the city's commuters

People travelling to work, school and university face a daily battle to get on buses during peak times and the council puts out monthly "bus-full" figures tracking the persistent problem... Lord Mayor Campbell Newman this week challenged Labor councillor and public transport chair Victoria Newton to find, house and fuel an extra 31 buses on top of the 89 he funded in this year's budget... Cr Newton had earlier told the council she was disappointed with the Lord Mayor's funding commitment after Labor's Lord Mayoral candidate Greg Rowell in June found a supplier who could build 120 new buses... House OKs additional funding for I-49, SporTran buses

Shreveport,LA,USA -The Shreveport Times, by Velda Hunter -7 Aug 2007: -- Money for construction of Interstate 49 North and new buses for Shreveport’s SporTran Bus System could be forthcoming after the U.S. House of Representatives approved funding... Legislators approved an additional $500,000 for the highway project. The funding is part of the Transportation/HUD appropriations bill, which also includes $250,000 for Shreveport’s SporTran to purchase new buses to replace older ones operating in the city.

A project to establish a law that would eliminate operational permits for "buses camión" or bus-trucks

Lima,Peru -Living in Peru -9 August, 2007: -- Vice-President of the Transportation Commission in Peru, Franco Carpio stated that the existence of "buses camión", large trucks which are converted into buses, has always been a problem... Vice-president Carpio stated that the program's goal was to eliminate the bus-trucks without hurting the owners. He explained that this would be done by offering owners incentives, providing bus-truck owners with a variety of options... Options include exchanging a bus-truck for a new one, or importing a second hand one that is not more than two years old. Another will be to buy one in Peru that is not more than 5 years old. He added that another alternative could be to import a new chassis and have the bus built in Peru... Carpio stated that currently, bus-trucks do not have permission to run and have been immobilized...

Singapore -Today on line, by Leong Wee Keat -31 July 2007: -- The Public Transport Council (PTC) announced yesterday that the two public bus operators — SBS Transit and SMRT — must now ensure bus frequencies do not exceed 10 minutes for at least 80 per cent of their services. The current requirement is 15 minutes... Operators have been given two years to comply with the shortening of the peak-period frequency, which will take effect in August 2009. The PTC said this would allow the operators to procure more buses and recruit more drivers. Norfolk,VA,USA -The Virginian-Pilot, by TOM HOLDEN -July 27, 2007: -- A new fleet of hybrid buses will replace the region's aging collection of trolleys under a deal concluded Thursday by Hampton Roads Transit... The agency agreed to spend $20.2 million on as many as 40 new buses as part of a plan to reshape the region's various trolley services into a universal shuttle system... The deal means Norfolk's blue NET buses and Virginia Beach's red trolley service will be replaced beginning next year with new vehicles powered by diesel-electric hybrid engines that promise better fuel efficiency and reliability...

The government is seriously considering construction of 56 new roads and introduction of a rapid transit system in the capital by 2024 for quick modernisation of Dhaka's current shabby transport system, according to Dhaka Transport Coordination Board (DTCB).

Mr. Bloomberg traveled to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday to lobby the U.S. Department of Transportation in an effort to gain the agency’s backing for his plan. The DOT has voiced concerns that it may not approve the funding if New York state’s legislature doesn’t approve the mayor’s plan by July 16... Overcrowded * Australia - Brisbane buses remain so. More investment necessary

The latest figures on bus travel show there are still too many overcrowded buses unable to pick up passengers.
