TRANSPORT INTELLIGENCE * Singapore - More frequent buses during peak hours with new standards

A wait off your mind

Singapore -Today on line, by Leong Wee Keat -31 July 2007: -- The Public Transport Council (PTC) announced yesterday that the two public bus operators — SBS Transit and SMRT — must now ensure bus frequencies do not exceed 10 minutes for at least 80 per cent of their services. The current requirement is 15 minutes... Operators have been given two years to comply with the shortening of the peak-period frequency, which will take effect in August 2009. The PTC said this would allow the operators to procure more buses and recruit more drivers. SBS Transit said it would require an additional 100 buses and increased manpower over the next two years to meet the new frequency requirements... (Picture: Landor/www.landor.com)
