* China - BYD lands contract for 35 electric buses at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

(Photo: A BYD electric bus) Shenzhen,Guangdong,China -Green Car Congress (USA) -17 July 2013: -- BYD Company, Ltd. has been selected to supply 35 all-electric buses to be used to transfer passengers between airport terminals and aircraft at the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport... These 35 BYD buses will enter service in July of 2014 and will replace an aging fleet of conventionally powered buses. The open-public tender was sought by four other established suppliers... The BYD ebus is a proven, full-size 12 meter (40 foot) bus which has completed more than 17 million kilometers (10.6 million miles) in revenue service and has been evaluated in many major cities across Europe...

Karachi,Pakistan -Dawn.com -19 July 2013: -- Sales of buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles generally declined in the last fiscal year 2012-13, barring farm tractors and jeeps (4x4), according to the statistics of Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA)... Truck sales, dubbed as barometer of local and foreign trade, declined to 1,948 units in FY13 as compared to 2,394 units in FY12 while bus sales dropped to 510 from 609 units... An official in a leading bus/truck assembling unit said that many factors combined to cause drop in sales of trucks, including imports of used trucks, competition among the assemblers, rising diesel prices and devaluation of the rupee against major currencies. Besides increase in price, the pre-election scenario also made investors cautious to invest in heavy vehicles, he said... He said new and used Chinese vehicles have also arrived, while many transporters preferred purchasing used locally produced trucks instead of new trucks. Developed logistic sectors are also shying away from buying Japanese trucks and many have shifted their focus to Chinese and other brands, he added...

Los Angeles,CAL,USA -China Daily -28 June 2013: -- Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) on Thursday announced a contract for the manufacture and delivery of up to 25 all-electric buses from China's BYD Motors... The contract with BYD is part of the County's $30-million clean air bus technology pilot project... It was the first time in Metro's history that all-electric, zero-emission transit buses will be purchased and placed into service as the agency evaluates electric bus technologies and their applicability to meet the region's transit needs, officials said. Under the contract, Metro will initially purchase five low-floor, 40-foot all-electric buses. After testing and evaluation, the transit agency could then choose to buy up to 20 additional buses...
