* USA - Fancy Buses Will Arrive More Often, Look Sharp in Traffic

Seattle,WASH,USA -The Seattle Weekly, by Damon Agnos -May 5, 2009: -- ... As bus-rapid-transit (BRT) advocate Ron Sims would be quick to remind you, RapidRide buses are coming as well... Yesterday, Metro unveiled those new buses, which have a red-and-yellow color scheme similar to that used in the flame decals on muscle cars. Metro also announced $13.8 million in federal grants for the project... RapidRide buses would function a little more like we'd be accustomed to trains functioning if we were accustomed to trains—they'd arrive every 10 minutes (at least that's the plan) and the driver wouldn't collect fares (you'd pay on the platform or when you get your ORCA card). They'd also have some new amenities like on-board wireless and a signal that those waiting at a stop can turn on to alert an arriving bus of the need to stop. But until they have a devoted right-of-way throughout their routes, they'd still spend plenty of time stuck in traffic...

Penang,Malaysia -Transit/The Star Metro North, by CHRISTINA CHIN –May 6, 2009: -- Penang can soon boast having a disabled-friendly bus system as Rapid Penang’s new fleet of 200 buses will be just that – disabled-friendly... There are currently two prototypes plying the streets for the past month, and more are arriving in stages from Sweden... The prototypes are equipped with seat belts, special bells, ramps and a hydraulic system that can lower the bus by 50mm before the ramp is extended out users to board the bus...
