BUSES' PURCHASE PROSPECTS * USA - Kirk calls on Pace to buy hybrid buses
Highland Park,ILL,USA -The Highland Park News, by ANDREW SCHNEIDER -May 1, 2009: -- Officials of the Pace bus system are coming under additional pressure to use $33 million the agency received in stimulus funding to buy hybrid buses, this time from U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, R-10th... Kirk sent a letter to Pace earlier this week urging them to hold off on their planned purchase of new diesel-powered buses with money received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and instead buy hybrids... Pace has come under a groundswell of pressure from local, state and now federal officials, led by Highland Park Mayor Michael Belsky. Pace announced it would be using its share of the stimulus money to buy diesel buses. It made that decision because hybrids cost between 40 and 60 percent more, and up to one-sixth of its fleet needs immediate replacement...
