NEW BUSES FLEET * Uganda - Unraveling the City Bus Mess
Kampala,Uganda -All Africa, by Frank Sserwaniko -7 January 2009: -- More than a year after Pioneer Easy Bus, the first company to operate a city bus service in Kampala, launched operations, the bus transport plan meant to decongest the city is yet to make any meaningful impact... Current bus operators say unclear rules, improper roads and limited access to long term financing still stand in their way to rollout full operations. Pioneer, which had promised to increase their fleet to 200 by the end of 2008, still runs 13 buses that ply Mukono, Gayaza and Mutungo Roads... Although passengers flock the bus stage hours before departure time, Fred Senoga the company's managing director says, they are expanding cautiously due to some regulatory and policy issues that need to be ironed out...
