Northglenn,CO,USA -The Denver Post, by Monte Whaley -14 Jan 2009: -- The yellow school bus glided in front of Hillcrest Elementary on Tuesday afternoon, deposited 22 third-graders and five parents onto the sidewalk and immediately got rave reviews... Ortiz and her classmates had just finished the maiden voyage of Colorado's first hybrid school bus. Using both diesel and electric power, it boasts a 70 percent cut in diesel fuel consumption and a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and drastically reduces engine maintenance, say Adams 12 Five Star Schools officials... Adams 12 purchased the bus — thanks in part to an alternative fuels rebate from the state — as a first step toward cutting maintenance costs and being easier on the environment, said Superintendent Mike Paskewicz...
