Takes Birmingham farther down the road toward a real transit system
Birmingham,AL,USA -The Birmingham News/al.com -January 13, 2008: -- By the end of next year, the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority will have an entirely new fleet of buses, replacing a smaller, older fleet prone to breakdowns... By October of this year, buses will begin running on Sunday, and everyday buses will run more frequently, cutting down on wait times. In less than two months, the transit authority will offer shuttle service to the Birmingham International Airport. On July 1, the transit system will actually roll back bus fares to $1 per trip... And, yes, in 18 to 24 months, streetcars will once again travel downtown Birmingham, though on a very limited route...
