The National Transport Commission (NTC) has introduced strict rules to regulate private buses

The new regulations for private buses will be enforced from next month for inter-provincial long distance buses that are regulated by the National Transport Commission... Accordingly bus owners will have to maintain their buses in keeping with the new standards introduced, follow the amended regulations and new regulations to renew their route permits, the Minister said... Under the new regulations, all buses should have fire extinguishers for safety and a clock in the bus to ensure the on time departure and reach the destination within the given time. The departure and arrival times should also be displayed inside the bus. All buses should display the route plates issued by the NTC on the front and rear of the bus to ensure that the buses are running on the given route...
