REPORT * UK - Bus use could increase by 12 per cent
Increase in passengers a possibility with partnershipsNorth Tyneside,England,UK -The News Guardian, by ANTHONY McLEAN -11 Jan 2008: -- Improving working arrangements between public authorities and private transport operators could increase bus use by 12 per cent, it has been claimed... A new report by the Confederation of Passenger Transport suggests that if public and private organisations work together the region could see an extra 15 million extra bus passengers... The private companies suggest by increasing the frequency of buses, decreasing bus journey times through reduced congestion, improving service punctuality and reliability and improving passenger waiting areas will increase passenger numbers by 12 per cent in Tyne and Wear... Simon Posner, chief executive of the Confederation of Passenger Transport, said: "A successful, attractive and high quality bus service can have a measurable impact on an individual's life"...
