DRIVERS: DANGEROUS JOB * UK - Calls to step up security on buses after driver is stabbed

Edinburgh,Scotland,UK -The Scotsman, by RAYMOND HAINEY -15 May 2007: -- Union bosses yesterday called for a Scotland-wide security standard for buses after a driver was stabbed in the leg by a teenager... The bus driver is recovering after he was knifed when he challenged a group of rowdy teenagers while driving his route in Edinburgh... The attack happened on a Lothian Buses service at the junction of Gorgie Road and Westfield Road... A spokeswoman for Lothian Buses said the driver was in his cab - which is equipped with a safety screen - at 11:50pm on Saturday when he was attacked... She added: "There's a screen on the door but drivers don't have it up all the time as it creates a barrier between them and the passengers"...
