* Chile - Transport system Transantiago to receive USD290 million
Santiago,Chile -Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge/NoticiasFinancieras (English) -10 May 2007: -- Chilean transport and telecommunications ministry has announced an investment of 290 million dollars for integrated public transportation system Transantiago in Santiago city. The intention is to guarantee the normal operations of the system during 2007 and to cover the projected deficit... According to Chilean Transport Minister, Ren Cortazar, most of the deficit is due to payment evasion, which is expected to fall once the technological operator of the system implements the buses' GPS system, expected to be ready on May 15th. Also, a better functioning of the system is expected to be achieved through changes in the concession contracts and more buses circulating in the streets...
