One month after slamming on the brakes because of concerns over its uncertain finances, the CTA's board Thursday voted to buy 400 new buses
Chicago,Ill,USA -WBBM, by Bob Roberts -17 May 2007: -- Not only will the buses be new, but CTA President Ron Huberman says they'll be cheaper to maintain and operate as well... One of the big prompts was the inflation clause built into the final two options in CTA's December 2004 contract with New Flyer Industries... The Federal Transit Administration pegs the service life of the average city bus at 12 years... Deliveries of the New Flyer order are already in progress... CTA has been receiving the buses at a rate of several a week... It hopes to have all 400 of the new buses running by February 2009. Some replace buses running since 1991...
