BUSES' PURCHASE PROSPECTS
* India - Bigger state buses for Thane, Panvel - MSRTC plans to introduce 60-seater buses by July on overcrowded routes
Mumbai,India -The Mumbai Newsline, by Swapnil Rawal - April 13, 2007: -- Commuters travelling in overcrowded state buses, plying between Mumbai and far-flung suburbs like Panvel, Thane etc, finally have something to smile about... To cater to its increasing number of passengers, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is planning to introduce bigger buses with a seating capacity of 60-65, from July 2007... At present, buses on these Bombay Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) routes—like Dadar-Panvel, Dadar-Thane, Borivali-Thane and Panvel-Thane—have a maximum seating capacity of 45 seats... MSRTC took the decision after realising that the profit-making BMTC is working under a 60 per cent overload...
