Commuters Complain * Australia - Wait of evidence belies bus claim

Sydney,New South Wales,Australia -The Sydney Morning Herald, by Jordan Baker and Jenna Hand -Mar 9, 2007: -- Sydney's buses are slow, unpredictable and far less reliable than official figures claim... A Herald survey of off-peak buses at five locations found a quarter were five or more minutes late, compared with the State Transit Authority's claim of just 5 per cent... The authority lists buses as on time if they leave the depot within five minutes of scheduled departure. In its last annual report it said 95 per cent were on time... But commuters say the real figure is lower. Their view is supported by the Herald survey, which monitored off-peak buses at five stops and found a quarter were five or more minutes late...
